Modern & Efficient

Situated adjacent to our main building, the secondary Ripley site accommodates our surface coating facility along with elements of other services. Re-built from new in 2004 after relocating from a kilometre away, the plant is modern, efficient, and as environmentally friendly as possible.

Pretreatment

Unpainted items go through a process of aqueous degreasing and iron phosphating in the online pre-treatment section of our conveyorized plant.

Finishing Flexibility

We are able to offer a wide range of powder coated metal finishes; polyester, epoxy and epoxy/polyester hybrids to suit most applications, decorative and/or protective. A range of gloss levels and smooth, textured, leatherette, and antique finishes are possible. Full masking facilities are available where product  requires earthing points, RFI shielding, or surface-to-surface contact.

The well-specified surface coating plant we operate allows us to process batch sizes from a single unit to high volume runs. Ancillary components complement the main plant and afford us capacity to handle low volume conventional wet spray finishing, and also powder coating for oversized units of up to 2 metres in length.

Environment

The components that make up the Ripley Surface Coating Technology (RSCT) plant were specified with not only efficiency in mind, but also reduced environmental impact. Traditional solvents that are thought to have depleted ozone levels in our atmosphere, and are known to be harmful to operators, are not used at Ripley. Further diminishing potential damage to our environment, the powder paints used at RSCT contain no solvents or other similarly harmful substances, and oversprayed powder can be reclaimed and returned to the system, so there is reduced pollution through wastage.

Quality

Several grades of finish may be available, but in all cases goods processed and finished at Ripley Surface Coating Technology are 100% visually inspected to ensure the best possible quality in accordance with your requirements.

Spotlight On Powder Coatings
Powder coatings in general are known for their excellent durability and resistance to chemicals and corrosion. Through variations in constituent materials and particle sizes, a whole range of textures and gloss levels are available, plus unlimited colours.
Epoxy powders are very durable but slightly susceptible to UV, so used mainly indoors. Polyester powders are UV resistant and provide high gloss levels. Hybrid epoxy-polyester powders combine the best properties of both.
Powder particles are gently blown from a gun and given an electrostatic charge. They are then attracted to the metallic workpiece and 'stick' to it in an even layer. Overspray can be collected and re-used. The piece is then baked in a curing oven at a carefully controlled temperature, where the particles melt and form a continuous coating that adheres strongly to the surface - and outperforms most wet-sprayed finishes.
